And The Cat Comes Too!

I know that I have written about 'World Sauntering Day'  (June 2012, wow, how time flies!). And the fact that you have to have a dog with floppy ears. What they failed to mention was that a Ginger Cat is becoming obligatory. And a challenge.

We walk every afternoon after watching 'Eastenders'. As soon as Alfie hears the closing theme music, he becomes animated, (AKA hysterical). And, this is now the signal for Basil to arrive from wherever he was and whatever he was doing, and join the party!

Most times we walk with friends who have a Standard Poodle and if this is the case, Basil sits under a bush in the road and howls. He is not scared of Cocoa, far from it, but she likes to 'mouth' him on the back of the neck, among other places, and leaves him literally soaking wet! So, he tends to avoid that as much as possible! And their little dog who is only just bigger than Basil, likes to chase him, so that also puts him off!

Me and my friend!

If we walk alone as we often do, especially over weekends, then Basil heads down the road with us, much to the amusement of the neighbours!

Interesting things to sniff out!

He follows Alfie from bush to bush, stopping along the way to do his own thing, and then hurtling past us to sit and wait at the next stopping point.

If he loses sight of us he simply howls and we have to stop and call him and wait for him to catch up with us!

Keeping an eye on Alfie.

On the way home he dodges in to the house on the corner, taking a short cut through their garden, and lies in wait for Alfie! Then he rushes towards home and by the time we get in the gate, he is lying on the path or sitting at the door waiting to get in.

Ready to pounce as Alfie walks past.

His latest fascination is with a clock!

The big hand is on.............

Our old clock radio gave up the ghost, well the radio part has never worked and the clock part ran on electricity!! So, yes, every time we had a 'rolling blackout' we would have to re-set the clock and eventually the hour knob stopped working! It is very disconcerting to have to keep adding hours on when you wake up in the middle of the night. For instance, I would wake up and see that the clock said '11.26'. So, I would think that I had only been asleep for a couple of hours and suddenly remember that I had to add on five hours, so it was officially '4.26'. Are you still with me? So, we bought a clock and put it on the wall. But, the ticking was so loud that I couldn't sleep! It sounded like an army marching slowly up a sand road! So, we put it in the office, where it ticks away happily. And Basil saw it.

He loves to sit and watch the second hand move.

And every day he comes to sit and stare.

I think he is teaching himself the time, so he knows exactly when it is time to go walking!
