Heaven in Hopefield!

On Friday we headed back to Brackenfell to fetch Hyacinth. We nearly didn't go actually as on Thursday night we had a storm. When I say 'storm', I really mean 'STORM'. Or should that read 'STORM'.

The wind woke us both, and then Alfie abandoned his bed and clambered onto ours as he was worried about the rattling and banging of the roof. So were we, but we stayed strong for him! A smattering of drops in between the howling and crashing was all we got in the way of rain, as  I think the wind simply blew most of it back up into the clouds! So we lay in bed just after 3 and discussed the merits of ice-cream vs coffee, and also whether it would be clever to tow a caravan if the winds were that strong and we were giving a really wide area to blow onto.

But, by Friday morning proper (by that I mean the sun had risen and the birds were up), it looked good to go, and after Rob had a quick look on 'windguru', we loaded Alfie into the car and headed south. (I think!)

On the way, we passed a lovely farm dam between Hopefield and Malmesbury, and there must have been ten or so flamingos in the water, flapping their wings and showing the pink underfeathers, so I said to Rob that I would like to stop on the way back and take a photo or two. (Were they there on the way back?? You guessed it. All gone.)

Anyway, we had a good run through to Brackenfell and found the caravan place first go, so easy once you know the names of the roads etc. And there she was! Gleaming in the sunlight, polished and shiny, with new tyres, and all the rusty bits painted and protected for the next few years.

Hyacinth, looking good!

While Alfie kicked a few trees and tyres and poles, Hyacinth was hooked up and we were ready to head home. A few months ago, Rob bought a special wheel with ratchety things and a long handle, that (supposedly) fitted onto the existing jockey wheel and made moving the van a whole lot easier! We had left it with them but they were unable to fit it as it was simply the wrong thing! So, Rob put the two pieces into the back of the car and off we set.

This brings me to the 'Law of Clang'. I am sure you all know it. The law that says 'no matter how far apart two pieces of metal are, even on a smooth bump-free road, they will creep towards each other and make tinkling noises until you are ready to scream'. So we stopped to fix it!

That got us chatting about odd things, one being are moles and bats really blind? And in searching for the answer, I googled the question and found a really interesting website called www.todayifoundout.com What a fascinating site, all the answers to all the odd things that you didn't know, or didn't know that you didn't know! Have a look and see.

Fynbos Kafee in Hopefield, pure Heaven!

By then we were close to Hopefield and lunch time! Now, we had nipped into friends in Malmesbury on the way home and had a cup of coffee, but Rob was wanting to get home so we said thanks but we wouldn't stay for lunch. However, our stomachs were regretting that decision so we turned in and bought take-aways from 'Fynbos Kafee' and Alfie met a white cat that wasn't too pleased to see him!

Not at all impressed to see Alfie!

And the food was fantastic! I had chicken strips that were as tender as calamari and Rob had a burger that literally dripped down his arm! Yum!

Waiting for our take-aways.

And, in case you are wondering, no, bats and moles are not blind!

But, I already knew that!

Oh yes, and I gave the white cat the first taste as we were leaving. She was very happy!
